Throwback Videogame Thursday – WCW/nWo Revenge on N64

WCW/nWo Revenge is the best WCW video game ever made, hands DOWN. It had a legendary roster, amazing game play, up to 4 multiplayer and excellent graphics for the era. The graphics aren’t even hard to look at in 2015.

Atlanta Georgia, 1998. A truck drives toward the camera. Sting is standing in the road and stops it. This guy takes a shit.

It’s WCW/nWo Revenge. The last bad ass WCW game and one of the best wrestling games…of all the times.

It was THQ at its best and WCW at its best. The AKI engine was in its second run for WCW, the first being WCW vs The World. That was heavily Japanese though. This game was pure USA. The roster was HUGE.

Features many factions…WCW, red nWo, nWo Hollywood, the Flock EWF and DAW.

Arenas included Monday Nitro, Souled Out, Superbrawl, Bash at the Beach, Halloween Havoc and Starrcade.

There weren’t a lot of modes in the game. Championship, where you can fight for the titles and unlock wrestlers. Exhibition features Single and Tag team match. Special match includes battle royals and handicapped matches for Joe.

I remember thinking how cool it would be if a WWE version came out. It did after this! Wrestlemania 2000.

They even had an animated Mark Curtis referee. You could also grab length and width only weapons. A chair and a table fragment. Or an enormous briefcase. It created dreams of a real table in a game that could break.

Bret Hart was in this! Macho Man! Hogan! Goldberg! Sting! DDP! Benoit! All were bad ass too. Goldberg and AKI man are the best.

It’s one of the best games ever especially for its time.

  1. The only thing you forgot to mention was the game’s obvious lack of Ric Flair, who had been fired from WCW by Eric Bischoff in April 1998 for allegedly no-showing a taping of Thunder, but would be back in September, just one month before the game’s release.
